  • Your choice of base: white, cider, or champagne vinegar.
  • A base of sugar, such as honey, granulated sugar, or molasses.
  • A clean and airtight container, such as a glass jug or jar, with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Tip: To avoid an unappetizing smell, it’s recommended to also include some 1-2 cloves of garlic and a piece of ginger in the container before closing.

  1. Mix the base and the sugar in the container.
  2. Seal the container and store in a cool, dark, and dry place for about 2-4 weeks.
  3. Once a week, open the lid and stir the contents with a clean spoon. This helps the vinegar form faster.
  4. Check the vinegar after 2-4 weeks. It should have a strong vinegar smell and taste, and be slightly cloudy.
  5. Strain the vinegar into a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid. Your homemade vinegar is now ready to use!
