Growing peppers indoors can be an enjoyable experience that provides you with a fresh supply of produce year round! Here are some guidelines and tips to help you on your pepper growing journey.

Choose The Right Container

When it comes to the container, it should be at least 10-12 inches deep and 8-10 inches in diameter. The container should have drainage holes at the bottom for the excess water to escape. If you’re using a plastic container, make sure it is dark in color, as this will help absorb more heat from the sun to keep your pepper plants warm.

Choose The Right Soil

A potting mix is ideal for growing peppers indoors. The potting mix should be light and well-drained, and should contain ingredients like compost, sand, and peat moss to help the peppers retain moisture. Be sure to add fertilizer to the mix tailored to your pepper plants’ needs.

Provide Enough Sunlight

Peppers need to be given at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight a day. As a supplement, you can also opt to providing your pepper plants with some form of grow light. Make sure the spot where the container is placed is warm. The temperature should be between 65 and 85 degrees for your pepper plants to thrive.

Watering Requirements

When it comes to watering, you should water the peppers when the top two inches of soil is dry. Make sure to use room temperature water, and avoid letting the soil become mucky. You can invest in a moisture meter to help you determine if the soil is too dry or too wet.

Harvesting the Peppers

Once the peppers reach their ideal size, you can begin harvesting them. Be sure to use gardening gloves when harvesting the peppers as some can contain of a lot of capsicum. Store the peppers in a cool and humid room for a few days and enjoy your peppers!

Follow these guidelines and tips and you’ll be able to successfully grow delicious peppers indoors.
