DIY Perimeter Alarm To Protect Your Home & Camp

Security for your home and camp is imperative for your peace of mind and the safety of your possessions. Installing a perimeter alarm system can be a great way to protect your property while still being cost-effective. While there are a wide variety of perimeter alarm systems available, creating your own DIY perimeter alarm is possible and can be quite simple. In this article, we’ll show you how to make your own DIY perimeter alarm and save money along the way.

Materials Needed

  • Motion sensor light (additional batteries and mounting hardware)
  • High-power floodlight
  • Alarm siren
  • Wireless camera (if desired)
  • Hook and eye screws (for mounting)
  • Small business card size sheet metal
  • Tools (wire strippers, screwdrivers, drill)

Step 1: Install the Motion Sensor Light

The first step to creating a DIY perimeter alarm is to install a motion sensor light on the outside of your home or camp. The motion sensor light will detect any movement in its vicinity and turn on when motion is detected. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation.

Step 2: Install the Alarm Siren

The next step is to install an alarm siren near the perimeter of the property. The alarm siren should be loud enough to alert you of any intruders. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation.

Step 3: Install the Floodlight

The third step is to install a high-power floodlight at the perimeter of your property. The floodlight will help illuminate your property in the event of an intruder being detected. Again, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation.

Step 4: Install a Wireless Camera

If you desire, you can also install a wireless camera at the perimeter of your home or camp. The wireless camera will help you to monitor the perimeter of your property from a distance. Again, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation.

Step 5: Create an Electrical Circuit

The final step is to create an electrical circuit. To do this, you’ll need to use hook and eye screws, small business card sized sheet metal, and a variety of tools (wire strippers, screwdrivers, drill). Once the circuit is complete, it will connect the motion sensor light, alarm siren, floodlight, and wireless camera together. This will enable them all to activate when motion is detected at the perimeter of your property.

Congratulations!

Your DIY perimeter alarm is now complete! With this system in place you can rest assured that your home or camp is protected from intruders.
