How to Fix a Flat Tire

My first job was in a tire shop when I was 13 years old but I learned how to fix a flat tire well before then but I have seen many people that cannot even change a tire. An experience today reminded me that I need to pay more attention to teaching my wife.

When I picked my daughter up from school today there was a woman standing by her SUV phone to ear with a flat. It was obvious she.. couldn’t change her own tire, let alone know how to fix a flat tire. I asked if she needed help, which she did, so I proceeded to use the opportunity to teach my daughter as much as her 4 year old brain can understand about changing a tire.
This got me thinking about my wife and what she would do when I was not around if she picked up a nail or something without a spare. Now I am not the best teacher so I decided to find a video to show her the process and I found the following video.

How To Fix a Flat Tire Instructions:

1) Locate Leak with Soapy Water. Watch for bubbles… even easier if you can dunk the tire.
2) Remove any object that may still be present
3) Ream with the Rasp from your Plug kit. This is sort of like sanding wood, roughs up for better adhesion along with
expanding a whole if it’s too small.
4) Cover plug with cement.
5) Use the insertion tool and push the plug in until about half is sticking out of the tire.
6) Snip the plug so that it is not above the tire tread.
7) Go get it patched, patch it yourself or have the tire replaced.

As always please use common sense and I hope someone learned something from this.
