Start With Food, Water and Finances

So you have decided to start preparing for TMTZI (The Mutant Turtle Zombie Invasion) , TEOTWAWKI or something more likely such as Job Loss, Earth(quake), Wind(think hurricane) & Fire(house) have you? The task was a little overwhelming for me at first and I had no idea where to begin.

For me, after everything was said or done, the first 3 items on my list of what to do were Food, Finances and Water. Pretty much every “most likely” event I could come up with would be made easier with preparation in edible and financial areas. Water was just a given as my body stops to work when I don’t consume it.

Think about it. . . .

You open your locker up at work and see that dreaded pink slip which sends a mess of questions bouncing around in your head.
How am I going to pay the mortgage? Where is the food money coming from?

Then you remember a post you read on Survival is Not a Kit that recommended you put away at least 3 months’ worth of expenses and to get 3 months’ worth of food stored as soon as possible. All of a sudden you realize that the situation sucks but it could suck a lot worse.

It dawns on you that having 3 months’ worth of food lowers your expenses a bit and extends your savings slightly.

“Wow”, you say to yourself, “I could be sitting here with this pink slip, have no savings and no food. What would I do then?”

If you are just starting set a financial and food storage goal that works with your income level right now. Even if you can only manage to spend $20 a month on this plan, work towards it.
