2) A Deli, Bakery or Supermarket

To get your 5 gal bucket just turn on the charm and ask whoever is working the counter if they have an empty 5 gallon bucket with a lid. They typically throw these empty pails away and you may actually be saving them a bit of work.
Depending on where you get your bucket and lid there may be some funky smells or substances in it. This is typically some sort of frosting, pickle juice or other baking substance.
Your new storage container is going to need to be cleaned thoroughly. You can clean a 5 gallon bucket with its lid easily using just water, baking soda and bleach.
You can repeat this process as many times as needed. I typically go get new buckets before a food shopping run so that I have clean containers when I need them. It can be a shock when the deli workers say, “We have seven of them. Do you want all the pails?” Once when I went get a single new 5 gal bucket I came back with 10. My wife was a bit irritated but oh well. We have used all the buckets and lids since then.
